Growing Pains
When I moved here 3 years ago this December, there were two elementary schools, one grocery store, Pizza Hut, Sonic, and 4-5 Mexican Restaurants. Last night we went out to eat at Hula Hawaiian Barbeque, one of the newer 15-20 restaurant choices in town. We now have six, working on seven, elementary schools, a Fry’s or a WalMart for groceries, Office Max, Pet Smart, Payless Shoes, Game Stop, multiple cell phone stores, and so on as shopping options.
Part of me really enjoys having so many choices so close; however, another part of me dislikes it. I told Sarah last night it’s hard to remember what it even looked like without all the houses and stores, even though it’s only been a short time. The town/city has not done a particularly good job with the growth either, as there are still not sidewalks available for students to walk safely to school in many neighborhoods, both new and old. And traffic, traffic is a nightmare because developers come in and widen the roads in front of their development but the town/city refuses to continue it on. So you can be driving on one road and have 3 lanes, then six lanes, then 2 lanes…all within the same mile. It’s insane, and it brings out all the road rage in me.
What amazes me? With all the pharmacy options now available re-filling a prescription still pretty much ends up being a pain, no matter which pharmacy is used. If I hear we’re waiting for a shipment to arrive so we can only give you a partial re-fill one more time I’m going to scream.

You have been there three years already??
Are you sure about this??? LOL
Time flies…
Hi, I am new to twitter and just happened onto your comments. I have been in Chandler since 1997 and Arizona since 1992. You sound like you are in the East Valley. I have driven N to S on Val Vista Rd and have run into the roads, as you describe.
I was here in 1973 and always marvel at what got started building and ran out of money, and what they have decided to finish (35 years later). You may want to take pics and compare them in later years to help freshen your memories.
Hope your pooch is OK. I have a little puppy named Blaise, cause he can run like fire.
Praying for kin and folks in CA.
Peace, Riahanna
I couldn’t believe how the Valley grew when I lived there! I watched it grow from 1978 to 1994. I haven’t been there since a short visit in 1996 and I am sure I wouldn’t recognize it now! Chandler used to be farm fields!
